PAINTING
Nicholas has been a painter since he was a teenager, and has had several one-man and joint exhibitions of his work over the years in various galleries, including a one-man show at Worcester Arts Workshop and a joint exhibition at the Ecology Centre in Covent Garden, London.

His paintings are inspired by the thangka painting tradition of Tibet, medieval icons and altar paintings, 16th century Persian miniatures, 19th and early 20th century illustrators such as Kay Neilson, and fantasy artists such as Roger Dean and Patric Woodroffe.

Although he has had no formal art training, he has undergone some training in Tibetan thangka painting, and paints these sacred images for people from time to time.

He generally paints in a liquid body acrylic paint that is similar to gouche, painting upon either paper, canvas or gessoed wooden panels. Sometimes he incorporates gold leaf in his work.

His thangka paintings are painted on gessoed cotton or silk cloth, stretched on temporary wooden frames in the traditional method. Once the thangka is finished, it is removed from the wooden stretcher frame, and stitched into a brocade frame.

Although he often has long periods when he does not paint due to other commitments, Nicholas considers painting to be his first art, and it is a vital part of his internal landscape - even when not engaged with.

Paintings are rarely available for sale, as most of the ones on this website have sold over the years, however a few are still available and new work will be put up from time to time. Those that are available are marked as such, and have a price by them.

DIGITAL ART
In recent years he has had far less time for painting, and a lot of his images have been digital, often creating the front covers of Sacred Hoop Magazine, as well as images for its articles.

These images are created in photoshop on an Apple Mac computer, and are, in effect a form of digital photomontage.

It is planned that prints of his digital work will be available soon in an online shop that will be part of the Sacred Hoop Magazine website.

PAINTING A HEALING IMAGE
A film of Nicholas painting a canvas which is a healing painting for someone he knows. The music is a song called 'Reason to Mourn' written by Ben Harper and performed and recorded by Nicholas.
